Frequently Asked Questions

Please review these FAQs below, and call our office if you have any additional questions.

Do I have to have my eyes dilated?

With all comprehensive annual eye exams, we usually dilate the eyes to get a more complete look at the back of the eye. In some instances, it can be deferred. It does make you light-sensitive and the vision can be blurry for a few hours. At follow-up visits it may or may not be necessary.

How long does it take for the dilation to go away?

On most people, it goes away in 2-3 hours. With lighter colored blue eyes it may last longer.

Should I have a driver?

Some people do not feel comfortable driving after having their eyes dilated, so a driver may be beneficial for some people, but most people are ok driving with their eyes dilated.

How long does the appointment take?

It usually takes about an hour for a complete eye exam. If you are a new patient to our office it may take a little longer.

Do you accept Medicaid?

There are numerous forms of Medicaid now. Most different versions of Medicaid we do not accept. We do accept Meridian Health Plan, but we are not accepting new patients with this insurance at this time.

Do I have to get my glasses at your office?

Our office offers frames and lenses that are high quality and we stand behind their accuracy. All of our frames are warrantied for one year against breakage. We can give you a prescription for glasses that you can get made anywhere. We can not guarantee the accuracy of glasses made elsewhere.

Can I have my contact lens prescription?

Yes, we will provide you a copy of your prescription. We frequently start you with diagnostic lenses that you try for a week before finalizing the prescription. Our website actually has a link that you can buy contact lenses through our office to be shipped right to your house.

Are you an affiliate of Henry Ford Allegiance Health? Do you have access to my chart?

We are an independent eye care practice. We do have access to Henry Ford Allegiance medical records. Depending on the information needed it may take some time to get additional information.

Do you do Lasik?

The surgeons at The Center For Sight do not do Lasik. We do offer consultations and evaluations for Lasik and other forms of refractive surgery. We can also do post-operative visits after refractive surgery if needed to keep your follow-up locally.
